I have been on this website quite often durng the last several months, but tonight for the first time I realized that I could share my memories about our classmates who have passed on. Bob Cohen and I were good friends for a number of years. My beloved parents also were very close friends with Bob's mother and father. I was good friends with Bob's younger brother Spencer and their sister Lisa, who was the youngest of the three children of Mr. and Mrs. Cohen. Bob had a vibrant sense of humor and a determination to enjoy life. During the years that I knew him I admired the way he carried on with courage and with his irrepressible sense of humor. I remember taking a long bicycle ride with him during a time when he was enjoying a period of remission from the illness. I was amazed by the strength and skill he showed as a bicyclist on that long ride.
What I shall remember most about Bob is that amazing sense of humor. During the years that I knew him I never heard him complain about his illness. I am privileged to have known so well both Bob and Lisa, who also died far, far too young. Though they died young, each of them showed true dignity in the way they lived their lives despite illness. It was my privilege to have been their friend.
Joel, thanks for sharing your memories of Robert. I wish more of our classmates would join in and post memories like this.
We're all heading towards age 65 next year, and it still seems unreal to me. We may not have known all the class members, but wherever we have been, and wherever we end up, we all share a common experience - we are graduates of the Needham schools. For many of us, our journey started in kindergarten. For others, they joined in later. Regardless, that type of experience just doesn't occur anywhere else in one's lifetime. Let's keep those good memories alive.
Thank you for your very nice comment in regard to my memories of Bob Cohen. I also want to thank Joan and you for your skill and dedication in making the webite of the Class of 1970 so special and meaningful. I really appreciate it very much.
I hope that you are having a very nice summer. I looked forward to the summer so much during the winter and the spring. Now that it's here, I can't seem to get down to focusing on what I want to do! Hopefully I'll come up with some kind of idea for something special before September comes round!
I wish you and all your loved ones all the best always!
