From the Boston Globe July 8, 1997
Lee Allen of Newton, a polio survivor, poet, and chairman of the English department at Needham High School, died of a cerebral hemorrhage Thursday in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 60.
Mr Allen was a great teacher. He took on a class of misfits my junior year...and I was one of them. He was just flat out KOOL!!!

Yes, Mr. Allen was one of my all-time favorite teachers. He treated us with respect, and we responded in kind. I also babysat for his family a few times.
